Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) have arrived in Singapore for a week-long international policy trip designed to expose them to innovative governance practices, cutting-edge public policy models, and transformative leadership principles.
This experience, an intricate component of the Academy’s 12-month Fellowship Programme, is tailored to cultivate globally minded public sector leaders by immersing Fellows in world-class learning environments outside Nigeria.
Throughout the visit, the Fellows will undertake a series of curated courses at the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), exploring themes such as economic transformation, sustainability, social protection systems, public housing policy, multiculturalism, and futures thinking.
The courses will be complemented by guided tours of some of Singapore’s most iconic and policy-relevant sites, including Marina Barrage, Gardens by Bay, the Housing Development Board Gallery, and the Singapore City Gallery.
In addition to classroom learning and site visits, the trip will feature panel discussions and fireside chats with policy experts and thought leaders. One of the highlights includes a session focused on doing business in Nigeria and Africa, fostering opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and strategic dialogue.
Executive Secretary of the Academy, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, described the trip as a pivotal moment in the Fellows’ leadership journey:
“This international policy trip challenges our Fellows to learn from global models of excellence while reflecting on how to adapt those insights for nation-building at home. It is an experience that will sharpen their perspective, expand their network, and deepen their leadership potential”.
One of the Fellows, Oreoluwa Afolayan, also shared his expectations for the trip, emphasising the importance of global exposure in shaping public sector innovation:
“I am eager to learn how Singapore has made such significant strides in governance, urban planning, and public sector innovation”.
