Fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) have arrived in Kigali, Rwanda, for an intensive policy study visit aimed at strengthening their understanding of leadership, governance, and public sector transformation through direct engagement with some of Africa’s leading institutions.
Over the coming days, the Fellows will participate in a carefully curated programme of high-level engagements with government institutions, development organisations, and leadership centres, gaining first-hand insights into the policies, systems, and leadership models that have contributed to Rwanda’s remarkable development journey.
The study visit began with engagements at Rwanda Cooperation, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN), the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC), and the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), where the Fellows explored Rwanda’s approach to economic planning, decentralised governance, institutional effectiveness, accountability, and citizen-centred service delivery.
The learning experience also extended to the African Leadership University (ALU), where the Fellows participated in an engaging leadership session with the University’s leadership and the LJLA Executive Secretary, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade. Discussions centred on the importance of developing ethical, adaptive, and purpose-driven leaders equipped to drive sustainable change across the continent.
Moving beyond the classroom, the Fellows took part in an immersive leadership simulation designed to challenge their strategic thinking, ethical judgment, and decision-making under pressure before touring ALU’s innovation-driven campus.
The Rwanda Policy Study Visit reflects the Academy’s commitment to exposing emerging leaders to global best practices and practical governance models that strengthen their capacity to lead with integrity, innovation, and impact.
Over the next few days, the Academy will continue to share highlights from the Fellows’ engagements as they explore Rwanda’s leadership ecosystem and draw lessons that can inspire transformative leadership and institutional excellence in Nigeria.
