The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially signed into law the bill establishing the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA), cementing its place as a statutory institution dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders in Nigeria.
The milestone marks a historic moment in the Academy’s journey, transforming it from a visionary initiative into a legal entity with the full backing of the Lagos State Government. This legislative milestone signals an even stronger commitment to the Academy’s mission of shaping exceptional young professionals into ethical, competent, and reform-driven leaders through rigorous public service immersion and leadership development.
Speaking on the significance of the newly enacted law, the Executive Secretary of LJLA, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade remarked
“This is more than the passage of a bill, it is the birth of a legacy. The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy is now a legal institution empowered to deliver on its mandate with greater structure and impact. We are even more resolute in our commitment to raising the calibre of leaders our public sector deserves, leaders who reflect the ideals of excellence, integrity, and service” she said.
Since its inception in 2022, the Academy has provided an intensive, immersive fellowship program that places young Nigerians in the heart of public administration, working directly with Lagos State EXCO members, Permanent Secretaries, and Heads of key government agencies.
With the signing of the bill, LJLA is poised to deepen its influence and scale its impact in producing visionary leaders capable of driving transformative change in Lagos State and beyond.
The enactment of the LJLA law is a significant stride towards institutionalising leadership development in the public sector, creating a pipeline of talent that will ensure continuity, innovation, and excellence in governance.
